Hello everyone. I see a lot of people asking questions on the reddit and the discord about build, and utility on some skills. So I decided to. SAS Tutorial for Beginners - Learn SAS in simple and easy steps starting from basic to advanced concepts with examples including Overview. The Beginning SAS Programming: a true beginner's guide for learning SAS is a 384-page SAS learning guide for beginners. It is written specifically for people.

Hello everyone. I see a lot of people asking questions on the reddit and the discord about build, and utility on some skills. So I decided to write a post on the Sword and Shield Gladiator (sas) with all the knowledge I have (even if it’s not much ). I am currently HQ 13, and all my guys are Rank 3-4.

I'am really bad at formatting on Reddit, so I you want something easier to read, you can go to the google doc format:) I’ve tested almost every skill of the sas up to level 2. Note that everything I’ll write here is for the current version of the game.

Skills might be balanced in a near future. Also, keep in mind that there is no perfect combination. Some works better than other, but in the end, you’ll want a lineup with enough diversity to be able to face everything. Please feel free to correct me if you think I’am wrong, and excuse the spelling since English isn’t my native language. Sword and shield gladiator. Attack x0.8 Defense x1.5 Armor x1.2 Health x1 Damage x1 As you can see, this guy focus mainly on Defensive stats, but has a Normal lifepool. So you’ll want to focus on mitigating damage in order to survive.

Also, since his attack is lower than other classes, you’ll end up being blocked more often and even countered. Having a weapon with attack on secondary stats is more important than getting damage on the weapon. This guy is the bread and butter of your lineup.

Sas has multiple uses, and can be build to serve either as a Tank, Support, or even DPS. He is a natural counter to Dual Warrior because he’s able to block attacks from the back, and his toolkit counters the dual warrior nicely. As an important note, it looks like the first sas you’ll get will give you the choice between a heal and a leap.

These two skills cannot be find on sas. This gladiator is kind of special, so you might want to keep it. I sold mine and I kinda regret it, just for the collection:) Spoiler To progress in the story, you’ll need one SaS to defeat 6 opponents, so don’t neglect training one. You can find the list of the skills on the wiki here: Active skills Armor Increase: When I rolled this one, I was unimpressed by the skill. But with the time, I can see this skill being staple in the long run. At lvl 3 this skill makes you reduce ALL damage done to you by 60%.

What it means, is that as long as you have this buff on you, opponent will take more than 2 times more time to kill you. So you basically more than double the hit point you have. All this for 2 action points, and you can cast it on your whole team.

The only drawback is that it’s only really efficient at rank 3 (30/35/60%). Block: This skill is a good all rounder. You can never go wrong with block. It has many hidden uses as well. It will makes wonder against 2h gladiators that hit once with a big hit. For only 3 AP, you can block up to 3 attacks, which is potentially invulnerability for 3 turns if you suffer only 1 attack per turn.

Beginners

Tips: You can use block to turn your character and to protect your back. If you are about to get hit on the back by a dual warrior, just cast block on you.

As soon as the dual warrior attacks you, you’ll block his attack and face him. No more backstabs!

Also note that a blocked attack means that you won’t be pushed back. So if you are against a wall or a trap, this is a good spell to have. It’s only working vs normal attacks, skills cannot be blocked, so you’ll be pushed back. Also, as a drawback, note that when you use the skill block, from my testing, you won’t be able to counter an attack. You’ll just block no matter what. Stone feet: For 2 AP you’ll be immune to pushback for 2-4 turns. It’s only usable on you.

It could be useful, but if you really need to not be pushed back, then a 2h gladiator could make it works for you as well. Also, if you don’t have one, the Block skill will also makes you immune to pushbacks during a normal attack (not vs skills tho). It’s definitely not my favorite skill, and I hope this one might be looked at by the dev to give it more viability. Charge: This one is really cool! For 3 AP you’re able to kb someone 2-4 spaces. This has so many uses! Offensively, you can use this skill against an enemy to push him against a wall and deal damage, or on traps.

You can even kill an opponent by repeatedly knocking him against a wall multiple times. Defensively you can use it to protect yourself against damage. If someone approaches you, and is about to attack you, just push him, and he’ll lost his turn. It’s really effective to avoid Dual Warrior attacks on the back. It can also make you face the direction you pushed your enemy. Stun: Well, let’s face it, in the current state, stuns are king. Stuns will basically makes your gladiator able to render an opponent unable to do anything for 4 ap during 2-4 turns.

The stun will be removed if you attack the target. This skill, like charge, will make you face the direction from where the skill was casted. Also, from my testing, a stunned enemy won’t be able to counter/block an attack. Also, SaS seem’s to have a special interaction vs stunned enemies. If you start your turn in melee with a stunned opponent and it’s the only available target, your sas will run though the guy, and backstab him. Animation is so cool I love it:D (Also it deals tons of damage). Note that your warrior will avoid hitting stunned enemies, unless they are the only available target in range.

Give order: This skill will probably be your best friend, and also the reason why you will end up raging against the game and sell your gladiator in the process ahah. It’s really a good skill on the paper. It makes you able to control your team of gladiator, and to focus down the target you want dead. It’s almost perfect except for 2 things that makes it unusable (for me).

It costs a ton to cast 5/4/3. Yeah it gets better at rank 3, but it’s still a lot for it’s uses. Major drawback is because of the way battle works.

Since you cannot pause the game, you’ll often end up casting it at wrong places. Let’s say you want to focus this big guy that makes your life hard by jumping around and stunning you. You then click on the skill and click on him.

Too bad, he moved, and now you have targeted the ground. All your warriors will now try to go to this point, not even trying to attack enemies and group up ready to be squished by the big guy leap. Well let’s try again and spend some more AP to try to click on him this time. 2BAD you had pizza on your finger and you targeted the ground again. Trust me it’ll happen to you as well:D It’s a really good skill, but as long as we can’t pause, or auto-pause when we cast a skill, I would not recommend this one for your own sanity:) Provoke: I haven’t found a gladiator with this skill yet, but I really want to try it. Afaik, this skill will make opponent target you if you are in range. This means that if the opponent can walk to you and attack you, he will choose you.

But if he cannot reach you with his available mouvement, he’ll attack someone else. So be careful about your placement at the beginning if you plan on using it at the first turn. This skill has lots of synergies with other skills on the paper (like taunt/block, or taunt/stun, or even taunt/charge to make them come to you and KB them on the right place.

Also if you have the reflect passive it can be effective as well). Passive skills Back protection: Since you’re a natural counter to dual warrior, it would seem obvious to take it.

But you’ll find that you’ll often block attacks or push or stun opponents that are on your back anyway. So i am not sure this is that much useful. I’d be interested to see how damage reduction stacks with Armor increase and this passive tho. Team motivation: It’s an “ok” passive for a dps build. At lvl 3 it’s 20% attack if your 2 other gladiators are with you. Attack is pretty important because it affects your chance to hit/kb and lesser the chances to be blocked or countered. I do think that this passive would be better if the passive would include the sas into account (even if the total value would be lowered to compensate).

Like that, it would have its uses even if you are solo. Counter class: All classes have access to those passives. Sas is the only class where i’d consider taking it, and even call it a great passive. Defense affect your chances to block/counter. This can really ruin the day of your opponent by making your sas really sturdy, especially if he has Armor increase. If I had to choose out of the 4, i’d definitely take Dual warrior counter, since you can block back attacks and blocking makes you face your opponent.

Shout of Valor: I think this is the best support passive in the game. This passive is insane. 30% defense at lvl 3 for your 2 other gladiators is massive. Please note that this passive won’t increase defense of your sas, only your allies. I’ve read somewhere that this passive stacks, so if you have 2 sas with the skill, each your sas will have 30% more defense, and your last gladiator will have a 60% boost (this is massive) Extra attack: Superb offensive passive. Tekonsha primus 90155 manual. It’s 37.5% overall damage buff at lvl 3, and this attack cannot be blocked/countered. This attack can crit, and will do back damage aswell.

Also this attack has chances to KB. Please note that if your first attack kb your opponent and there is no opponent around, this 2nd attack will be lost.

Outnumbered: Meh it has his uses during campaign when you will face 8 opponents and you are alone. But besides that, it’s not really great. In pvp you battle 3v3. So, even if you are in trouble and you loss your 2 other gladiators, I doubt that the 24% defense bonus will save you. Revenge On a dps warrior, it could have his uses, but same as outnumbered.

If you lost your other 2 gladiators, you’re pretty screwed anyway. Celebrate Death: This one is a “win more” skill.

You kill an opponent, you get stronger. So it won’t help you winning something you are losing, but it might make you win a tight match. If I had to choose between Outnumbered, revenge and this one, i’d probably take this one. At least this one doesn’t rely on your team to die. Reflect: I really want to test this one, especially with a taunt and an Armor increase.

I don’t know if damage return is unmitigated or not. I don’t know if the damage you return will be inflected to you (If opponent deal 100 damage and you reflect, do you take 100 and opponent takes 40, or do you take 60 and opponent 40).

Anyway, 10% seems not much at rank 3, but if the passive reduces damage aswell, it can be ok I guess. Anger/Scavenger: Well those are nice. They can make you win a fight that you would lose. Ihmo, Scavenger is way better than anger tho, especially on pve. Because of this skill, you’ll be able to fully heal you at the end of each battle, and you won’t spend time and gold healing your guys. Please note that Scavenger is known to be “a bit over the top” passive and might be tuned down sometime soon:) Conditions resistance: Well every class has this passive as well.

It makes sense to have it on your gladiator. At level 3, you’ll avoid conditions 30% of the time (stun/blind/poison/cripple/.). It’s a bit hard to rely on it, and I’d prefer something like “Resist an effect once every X turn” or something but it still helps from time to time. Tactics Master: This one surprised me. At first I had to choose between this one and Outnumbered. I choosed tactics master. Now, I think this is one of the best passive sas has as his disposal.

More AP is more skill, so basically more whatever you want. And this can have a huge impact on a match. Begin able on turn 1 to buff your team and inflict 1 stun instead of having to choose between a stun and a buff, this is huge. Definitely a good pick. Sword mastery: One of the best passive if you plan on going dps with your warrior. Make sure to save sword if you plan to go for it.

Might be hard to find a good weapon to use this passive with. But 30% damage is more than worth. Some Build example: Like I said earlier, there is no “perfect build”, but there is some combinations that will work better than other. I’ll make some examples below that, I think, are good viable builds. Don’t try to copy those, because with the randomness of level up you might end up frustrated. Just use those as guideline.

Killer SaS: Stun / Charge or Stun / Give order Sword mastery / Extra attacks / Team motivation or tactics master or celebrate death. This one is made for getting to a target and killing it. Stun will make you able to control the other opponent while you’re chasing down the target. Give order will help you focus the target and Charge will help you deal damage or control the other opponent. Tactics master will give you enough points to be able to deal damage with Charge, or to stun opponent. Unkillable SaS: Block/Armor increase or Block/Stun Counter class/Condition resistance/scavenger or anger.

This build is just ultra resilient. You will spend most of the time blocking or countering attacks. You’ll resist effects and be healed when allie/opponent dies. Choose armor increase for even more survivability and use block to face enemies that get on your back, or use stun to control the field and reduce damage you take. Buffbot SaS: Armor increase/Give order or Amor increase/provoke Shout of valor/Tactics master/Counter class Dual or reflect if you choose provoke. This build rely on supporting your team by reducing damage they take.

Thanks to tactics master you’ll be able to cast Armor increase on whole team while having enough for Give order or taunt. You’re still have enough time to let your other 2 gladiator kill your opponent. FOTM SaS Stun/Armor increase Tactics master/Extra attack/Shout of valor/ This one is my current goal. All rounder character, able to support his team (passively and actively) and still be able to deal a good amount of damage. Mine has those 2 actives, and Tactics master with extra attacks. I hope for a shout of valor on the third:) Conclusion Well this will do for this guide.

I am not an expert on the game, but I hope it’ll help new players get started. Keep in mind that this game is RnG based on most of things and you won’t be able to get everything you want perfectly, unless you spend time and resources on it, or be lucky. Also, this game is fairly young, so don’t be too impatient, i am sure it’ll get even better over time. If you want advice or debate about this, please feel free to ask, or come to the Discord channel where there is plenty people willing to help:) If you enjoyed this, I might take the time to do one for the 3 other classes as well:) Best, Eyedoll Edit: format.
