Overview of Elite Lennox Elite furnaces are a series of gas and oil furnaces currently in production. Five gas models are available, ranging from two high-efficiency models, the EL296V and the EL296E, with an AFUE rating of ninety-six to the EL280, which has an AFUE of eighty. The EL296V and the EL296E are both Energy Star-certified. Single-stage and two-stage heating models are available in the Elite series. One model, the ELO183, is listed as an oil furnace in the Elite series, with an AFUE of eighty-three. Dealer in Glenwood Springs, Colorado refuses to order service replacement parts because they only like big install jobs and hate small jobs like getting replacement parts.
So we have a big expensive Lennox furnace that is totally unusable. A call to the main Lennox company was terrible, they couldn't care less about their clients or consumers. I was politely told they couldn't care less, if I can't get a part from the dealer, it's just too bad! Enjoy your Lennox furnace for the first year, then like we have to, replace it with a unit from a company that will sell spare parts. Date created: 2016-12-29 G51mp - 110 The furnace literally from day one did not blow hot air consistently and from 2004 to now has been a pain in the rump. Changed circuit board way back.
I use my wood stove as primary heat so I hardly run it. Now, because if fires, shuts off, runs for a minute shuts off, sits, wait, fires I decided to take matters into my own hands. After disassembling the cold condenser box it could be seen the fouled secondary heat exchanger. Reviewing the manual, and the installation I realized the furnace is not level, in fact, half an inch to the back. It should be level or half an inch to the front.

The condensate builds up in the lower tubes. Probably a common problem of drainage.
Horrible fouled. Cleaned tubes, leveled with 1/2 inch to the front, runs like a charm now. 12 years of torture when I used it which was not often. Date created: 2016-05-16 My Furnace is the Worst The Lennox Elite furnace came with the house. We've lived in this house for five years. I can't say there is much that I like about it. It's one of the worst, most inefficient furnaces we've owned.
What I dislike about it is that it is very inconsistent. When it's turned on, it blows cool air randomly. Then it seems to kick in and will blow hot air. For some reason, it doesn't regulate itself correctly so that when it finally does blow hot air, it doesn't self turn off when it reaches that temperature. It's impossible to leave it on at night as it can become a sauna in a few hours depending on how it's behaving. I had a repair man out twice the first year we moved here.
The first man could find nothing wrong with it. The second repair man recommended replacing the whole unit. I wouldn't recommend the brand to a friend. Replacing it is on my list of home repairs to do as soon as I'm able. Date created: 2016-01-12 Worst ever purchase Purchased on June 29, 2015 and waiting for the another repairman to arrive in 15 degree weather. This is the third visit this month. Furnace continually has to be reset, constantly giving error codes within a couple of days of being repaired.
Decided to replace the old furnace during the summer because of AC problems and was advised to replace a 22 year old Day and Night plus 90 at the same time to avoid future problems. This is the first winter for this furnace and it has continually malfunctioned. Model EL296V supposedly a high quality unit as advertised by Lennox. This two stage furnace has been a total disaster so far. Date created: 2015-12-01 One element burned in half Had this furnace 3 years, Two years ago the sequencer was 'bad', this year one of the four heating elements was 'burned out'.
Spent one hour total waiting for Lennox customer service to take my call (got disconnected from Louis the first time) and he didn't call back as he said he would if the cell phone call failed when I went down the basement to check the model number on my furnace. The second time, Dominick was great. Seems like Lennox was really interested in making sure my dealer followed through on this repair since I have a 10 year manufacturer's warranty. Just home this is the end of the bad news when I have my yearly maintenance done. Date created: 2015-10-05 So far so good, & I wish I could take it with me. My aunt passed away in 2013. We inherited half her store/home.
In 2007, she had the place remodeled, and bought a near top of the line 96% efficiency furnace & central AC, with triple filtration, germicidal lamp, etc. The building is 1420 square feet. It is a 100+ year old brick miner's home that was expanded & made into a grocery store in 1922. In the 1930's it was added onto again, with indoor plumbing and a bakery/kitchen. In the 1940's it was added onto yet again, and once more in the 1950's, when it became a music store. So this is a poorly insulated, cobbled together mess, but it is comfortable as can be. Our highest bill was $280 for everything - water, gas & electric.
This was in a very cold February when we had squatters in the building trying to run the bills up, just for spite. The unit is quiet and efficient. Even with the big single pane store front windows, the area between the supply vents is warm & comfortable. There is a little bit of cold spotting by the display windows, but this Lennox system makes the old building really livable. The AC is nice too. It does not 'hard start' and it cools the place off great.
We are in Colorado Springs, so the climate is rather moderate for winter and mild to moderate for summer. Maybe a few days of below 0, and sometimes it will stay below freezing for 30 days or more, but no -30, & rarely ever +100. I really wish I could take this system with me when I sell the place. I am a skilled tradesman, so I know the installation is not perfect, and the building is poorly insulated & poorly sealed, but this furnace is still wonderful.
Filters are pricey, at $30 each, but they last a while too. I have not priced the second filter, yet. Don't care, it's worth whatever it costs. My home is in Phoenix, Arizona. We have an American Standard brand (not name) gas pack AC/Furnace rooftop unit there. It's okay too, but I wish really we had the Lennox AC & Furnace.
In August, our bill was $108 for everything. I set it at 75 degrees. We set it at 73-75 in winter, as we are used to the Arizona heat. Even with some sob tenant and a bastard executor of the estate trying to kite the bills and skim the utilities off the estate, the bills were not too bad. The executor put the utilities into the name of the estate, cranked the furnace up to 80 degrees and put the baseboard heater on in the garage set for 90 degrees, and it only ran up a $280 bill. The tenants were roasting coffee in summer and the roaster & the AC unit would not run at the same time, so this system has been abused by a couple of a-holes who knew they did not need to repair or replace it.
Date created: 2015-09-04 Lennox furnace is highly energy efficient We had our new Lennox furnace installed just a few months ago since our old furnace was on its last leg. We were replacing a furnace that was original to our 1994 built home and was costing us a lot of money in propane to run. We love that the furnace is highly energy efficient, which saves us money on our propane bill and prevents us from having to refill our propane tank as often, which is a pain. I can't think of anything that I dislike about this furnace. The installers were friendly and fast and were able to install the furnace in just a few hours. Since purchasing our new furnace, we haven't had any issues that have needed repair.
We have purchased Lennox systems before and would highly recommend them to our friends and family for their great reliability and high efficiency. We give our Lennox furnace five out of five stars! Date created: 2011-11-05 The Man Just had this Lennox G61MP-36B-071-. unit installed replacing a 20 year old lennox unit, this is a 95% efficiency unit. It is a relatively quite unit. Heat distribution is amazingly fantastic.
This was just installed this week so I am hoping it last as long as last 80% efficiency lennox unit. The old unit I had to open the front of furnace to change the filter which was not fun. The new unit has filter that just slides out and can be replaced and I can also use a higher quality filter.
Date created: 2011-01-12 NOT HAPPY! We bought a new home in dec. 05 it came with a Lennox Elite with a 5 year warrant on parts. 1st week Jan 2011 we started having Problems.
Had a tech come out to check it out and the computer board needed replaced. I'm like no problem I have a 5 year warranty he called Lennox and said my warranty expired 2 weeks ago! I paid over$ 4.500 for this P.O.s and now another 560.00. The tech said he sees this all the time like it is programed to break after 5 years. Date created: 2010-10-28 Not happy with Lennox I had an expensive 90% efficient Lennox furnace installed. The Lennox Elite series.
I'm very unhappy with this unit. The burn sensor has to be cleaned virtually every heating season and now today I had to replace the entire circuit board to the tune of about $500.00! Five hundred dollars for a circuit board?I can buy a new laptop computer for that amount of money! The furnace is only 4 years old.
If you're looking for a long term furnace, I would not recommend Lennox! It seems that Lennox is in the business of selling overpriced replacement parts rather than high quality furnaces. Date created: 2009-07-14 Carrier Furnaces Bought two Carrier 58ss furnaces, along with two Carrier ACs, and two Carrier Electronic filters in 1982. Had trouble from the beginning with the furnaces and air cleaners. Furnaces had to have circuit boards repaired, replaced numerous times, as well as fan motors replaced, etc. ACs were another story.
Rock solid, and we have summers with over 100 degrees for weeks at a time here in the midwest. 27 years on the ACs until one died this month. The furnaces are another story.

Finally replaced the Carrier furnaces with Lennox G50s in 2004 when one of the Carriers died for the last time. Had one service call on one of the Lennox furnaces in the interim and that was such a simple fix that the service tech incorporated it into a seasonal tuneup charge. Short story, Long. Carrier: good ACs, poor furnaces.
Lennox: good furnaces. Do I dare replace the ACs with another Carrier product or take a chance on Lennox ACs/Heat Pumps? Date created: 2009-02-17 Angry and disatisfied We bought a Lennox Elite Series 11 yrs. Ago we have replaced the ciruit board twice now, the ignition switch once, and had the fan repaired, I even have had a certified contractor come and just clean and oil it because I am so afraid of freezing another winter. It is so noisy when it is running it sounds like a jet plane taking off.
It is a piece of crap I will never purchase another Lennox and do not recomend it to anyone. I agree with the person who commented about Lennox should stand behind their product and give some compensation back in return. Next repair it is gone. Date created: 2008-06-01 Title I had a Lennox g60dxv installed in March of 2005. I had contracted for the smallest unit (70,000btu) but they installed the next size larger, When I questioned the salesman he said he substituted the larger unit so it would never go into the second stage. I think it was because the larger cabinet fit my installation easier.

I made them remove the oversized unit and replace it with the proper sized unit. I had the free service after the first year and was less-than-impressed by the technician. He was certainly likeable and seemed to know what he was doing but I had to ask him to check the gas pressures and then fix the battery clip on his manometer. He did not clean the heat exchanger, which Lennox suggests be done at annual check. About a month into the next heating system the unit failed without any diagnostic lights pointing to the problem.
I found the draft switch connection plugged with corrosion and upon cleaning it worked okay. This same thing happened again a couple of weeks later but since the second cleaning it has been working fine the rest of the season. The installing company has been in business since 1922 so mere longevity in business is no guarantee of either quality installation or service. Other Elite Reviews An HVAC installer writes on the hvacsite.com forum about a problem with his personal Lennox Elite furnace. He is having trouble with the fan turning on and off properly; the experts at the forum agree that the problem is probably a faulty electrical board. Another post on hvac-talk.com points out the fact that most HVAC forums highly recommend Lennox and Carrier products. Installers often say a homeowner cannot go wrong with these companies, and they should compare warranties, rebates, and tax credits to make a decision.
A writer on diychatroom.com has inherited a Lennox Elite furnace with the purchase of an existing home. He does not believe it has been serviced, and he is having problems with fan noise and the thermostat. The contractors online direct the homeowner to clean several parts on the furnace, and then see what happens.
